October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Martha Talton, one of Pierre&Harry’s co-founders is a breast cancer survivor, so this is a cause especially near and dear to our hearts. We’ve been in pink all month-long, and in honor of Martha’s struggle and in support of the hundreds of thousands m of women who  suffer from this disease, Pierre&Harry is donating 10% of all proceeds at the Naples Farmer’s Market this Saturday to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure FOundation. Help us fight this deadly disease.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. Furthermore, the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less 1 in 8.

Did you know that the American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States in 2011 are:

  • “About 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women
  • About 57,650 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be found (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
  • About 39,520 deaths from breast cancer (women)”
